Baking a traditional rye bread

Baking a traditional rye bread

In Lakomäki Forest Manor’s rye bread workshop we dive into Finnish food culture and feel the Finnish roots with the first bite.

A Finnish rye bread is made with love and unhurried enjoyment. The enchanting smell of freshly baked bread will turn any day into a celebration. The bread is baked with a sourdough starter that’s more than 100 years old, passed from generation to generation to this day. Rye bread can also be baked in a conventional electric oven. The baking takes unhurried time and patience. We’ll take breaks from baking by going outside and having coffee. At the end of the day, you’ll receive a warm loaf of bread and a century-old sourdough starter.
